The test will be conducted using personal laptops (BYOD) and will consist of three (3) sections: reading, mathematical reasoning and thinking skills.
O/S: Windows 10 or later, macOS 25 or later, or the latest Chrome OS.
Wi-Fi: Your laptop must be capable of connecting to our local wireless network.
Battery: Fully charged, minimum 3 hours (no power outlets available).
Device Security: No login/security issues; child must know unlock steps.
Chromebooks: Make sure ‘Guest Browsing’ is enabled in Privacy & Security settings. If your Chromebook is managed by your work or school, and this option is not available, use a Windows laptop or a MacBook instead.
Antivirus: Disable any antivirus software to avoid conflicts with the ASAT platform.
Network:NO proxy or VPN settings enabled on your device.
Web Browser:Chrome is recommended. For macOS users, install the macOS version of Chrome and make sure iCloud Private Relay is disabled in System Settings app.
Software Restrictions: Grammar or spelling checkers (e.g., Grammarly), as well as any AI tools or AI‑assisted software must NOT be installed or running during the test. If such tools are detected, the test results may be invalidated.
Device Compatibility: Tablet PCs (iPad, Galaxy Tab, etc.) are not supported.
If a student’s BYOD laptop fails during the test, a rental laptop may be provided for a flat $50 rental fee without parental or guardian permission.
Laptops are available to rent at $50 per student. Availability is very limited, and rentals will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please indicate your rental preference during registration. Once all laptops are booked, this option will no longer be offered.
Parents/guardians are liable for any damage caused to rental laptops.
Parents/guardians will receive an outcome email on 12th April 2026, with a link to download their child's detailed test outcome reports.

Limited places mean early preparation is key. ASAT is especially helpful for students who struggle with exam nerves, need help managing test time, or have limited familiarity with computer-based testing.
ASAT is designed to closely replicate the actual selective school exam in timing, structure, question formats, and the computer-based testing platform. While there are minor practical differences - such as venue conditions that can vary by location and venue type - this CBT rehearsal still builds the confidence and digital fluency essential for success on exam day.
Every student receives a comprehensive performance report, including accuracy by section and common error patterns. These insights help families identify weaknesses and refine study strategies during the final stretch of preparation.
ASAT draws from the largest dataset in the market, offering strong statistical reference points for potential school placements. While not guarantees, these insights offer meaningful direction to support your school selection decisions.
ASAT simulates the full exam experience, including following supervisor instructions, taking breaks, and using the toilet during the test. This realistic experience helps stabilise mindset and reduce anxiety - with families consistently reporting a noticeable drop in stress levels after ASAT.
Secure your spot early and give your child the confidence, skills, and insight they need to succeed in the Selective High School Placement Test.
While every effort has been made to provide an accurate testing experience, no warranties, endorsements, or representations-express or implied-are made regarding the accuracy or suitability of this mock test for any particular purpose.
This test has been developed independently by Pre-Uni New College and is not officially endorsed by the NSW Department of Education. The actual exam may differ in format, content, and level of difficulty.
All test questions are strictly confidential and will not be available for review.
Any form of cheating, including copying or taking screenshots, will lead to immediate cancellation of the test and loss of all results.
Makeup tests will not be available for missed sessions for any reason.
No refunds or credits will be issued for cancelled registrations.
If a student’s personal BYOD laptop encounters technical issues during the test, a rental laptop may be provided to prevent disruption. Parental permission is not required for this provision. A flat fee of $50 applies, regardless of usage duration.
Pre-Uni New College is not responsible for damage to students’ personal laptops.
Parents/guardians are responsible for any damage to the rental laptop resulting from their child’s negligence or carelessness.
If a test cannot proceed as scheduled due to unforeseen circumstances (such as venue issues or technical difficulties), the test centre may be changed, or a makeup session may be scheduled for a different date, time, and location.
